Who: 6-8th grade students

When: Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday when school is open: 3:45-6pm starting August 31, 2010.

What: After-School Central, (also known as “ASC) is designed to partner with parents by providing a FREE, safe and supervised after-school education, enrichment, and recreation program for middle school students. Our two part-time staff work in conjunction with a team of adult community volunteers to provide a balance of recreation, education, and enrichment through the daily structure of activities. Free snacks are provided daily to students, as well as at least an hour of free (recreational) time in the gym, game room, and computer lab. Education and enrichment happens during “Options” and “Homework Time,” two 30-minute blocks of time for various opportunities, including homework help or creativity classes. Creativity classes vary from week to week, but include art classes, service projects, guitar lessons, fitness training, small group discussions and a variety of other activities.  See pictures here.

After-School Central also engages high school students and ASC alumni to volunteer weekly. High School volunteers assist staff and volunteers with concessions, homework help, supervision, and various other projects and responsibilities, teaching them responsibility, job skills, maturity, service and teamwork.

The strength of ASC is our volunteers and staff, because they provide hours of positive interactions, role modeling, and caring relationships each week.

Bus Transportation (Thanks to Whitley County Consolidated Schools!) is provided from Indian Springs Middle School to The Center. Completed permission forms are required to travel on the bus. Students must be picked up no later than 6:00 pm at The Center.
